The RFI seeks to understand whether an interceptor drone could counter the threat of jet-powered OWEs. 

The interest came within just two weeks of the scheme first being announced. 

Much of the investment will go towards bolstering its air defence and ammunition.  

Changes will see a consolidation of key departments and a reshuffling of leadership roles.  

The UK will host industry representatives to better understand available solutions.  

The deal sees Poland gain the ability to produce K2 tanks domestically. 

Countries in the EU have expressed clear interest in taking advantage of the funding instrument.    

It comes just 12 months after the MoD recognised esports as an official military sport. 

The UK is particularly interested in one-way and electronic warfare based ACPs. 

A new centre for drone development will also be established under the plans.

New legislation will create a central procurement agency and allow for advance payments to smaller firms, among other things.

Asgard’s development comes as the UK MoD pursues a 10-fold increase in lethality by 2035. 

The purchase is part of efforts to develop the UK’s uncrewed and autonomous systems ecosystem. 

The country will spend the money on fighter jets, missile defence systems, and drones, among other things.

The taskforce will help regulate how EU member states are using the defence fund.
