Commander Sean Trevethan is the current Fleet Robotics Officer within Maritime Capability, the Division within Navy Command which plans the future capability of the Royal Navy. His role is cross cutting, looking at Autonomy in all domains and how it can be exploited by the Navy of the future. Recently the Secretary of State for Defence announced the award of £75m to the RN to bolster the exploitation of autonomy, Cdr Trevethan was subsequently appointed as the Programme Manager for NavyX, which is a new organisation that will accelerate new technology into service, with a focus on lethality. Cdr Trevethan is a Weapon Engineer by specialisation and has seen operational service in the Destroyer Fleet, most recently on 9 month Kipion Deployment in 2016 in HMS Defender (Type 45), operating with several carrier strike groups (Fr/US) in the Arabian Gulf and conducting counter-narcotics operations in the Gulf of Aden. Prior to his current role, Cdr Trevethan completed the Advanced Command Staff Course at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham.
