Air Cdre Nick Brittain joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1992. After initial training at RAF College Cranwell and RAF Hereford, he proceeded on the round of junior officer postings at RAF Stations in the United Kingdom, training at the School of Finance & Management at Worthy Down in 2000, and deployments to the Falklands and Afghanistan, prior to promotion to Squadron Leader in 2002. Postings as Officer Commanding Personnel Management Squadron and then A8 at Air Command were followed by further operational tours in Bosnia and Kosovo, before a period of loan service as a Lt Col in the Sierra Leone Army. After completing Advanced Command & Staff training (ACSC11), he was again sent on deployments to Iraq, and then Operation ATALANTA, the Royal Navy commanded anti-piracy mission. Wing Commander tours were undertaken at RAF St Athan in a plans role, RAF Lossiemouth as Officer Commanding Administration Wing, Joint Force Command Naples in J3 Effects & Influence and MOD London delivering Pay 16. Promoted to Group Captain from the 2016 Board, he undertook another Afghanistan tour, and a further Main Building posting within Armed Forces Remuneration, prior to a two year tour at Worthy Down as Commandant Defence School of Policing and Administration / Head of Establishment in October 2018. From Nov 20, Group Captain Brittain was posted to Air Cmd, to act as Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for the reformation of the organisational design of the RAF – Pg PROFESSIONS. He took up post as Air Cdre Career Management in Jul 22, and retains the SRO role for PROFESSIONS.
