Brigadier Niall Stokoe OBE

Brigadier Stokoe commissioned in to the R SIGNALS in Dec 1992. Early troop command posts were varied with EW, SIGINT & SATCOM roles as well as Northern Ireland and numerous Balkan Op tours and, 2 years with Queen’s Gurkha Signals. Thereafter he spent a lot of time skiing in Norway as 2IC of 249 Sig Sqn (AMF(L)), before returning to 30 Sig Regt & Queen’s Gurkha Signals as Adjt. He attended ACSC from 2004-06 and did his ‘black bag’ as the UK Exchange Officer with US Army G6 in the Pentagon working as COS for their Architecture Integration Division, also managing to play football for the Pentagon & the British Embassy while there. At sub-unit, he commanded 12 Mech Bde HQ & Sig Sqn (228) from 2008-2011, following which he deployed to Afghanistan alongside the US Marines in late 2011. On return and promotion to Lt Col in 2012 he assumed a SO1 J3 appointment in PJHQ, as the Team Leader for the CT & Rest of the World OT, work for which he was awarded the OBE in 2013. He then returned to Gurkhas for the 3rd time, assuming command of 30 Sig Regt and the appointment of Commander Queen’s Gurkha Signals. Promoted to Col in 2016, he was DACOS Change Plans, HQ Home Command before promoting to Brig in 2017 and assuming the appointment of Head Information Services in Army HQ. He also attended the Higher Command and Staff Course in 2018.
