Major Mike Curtis-Rouse
A disruptive technologist and innovator, Mike is the Head of In-Orbit Servicing and Manufacturing (IOSM) at the Satellite Catapult. Mike leads a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, technologists, and analysts with mission heritage in spacecraft, launch and operations combined with expertise from automotive, manufacturing and the maritime sectors. The ambition is to ensure that the UK leads in the vanguard of the new era of commercial space, with the ability to actively compete in in-orbit servicing, robotics, manufacturing, and propulsion technologies. His team have built and operate the largest close proximity and operations simulator in Europe, along with adjacent facilities for the design and manufacturing of rocket engines, both located at the Westcott Venture Park leveraging the sites heritage in propulsion development and testing. In addition to his Catapult role, Mike advises new space startups and is the CEO of a stealth space startup. Prior to Catapult worked for Reaction Engines, the European Space Agency, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, the Mitre Corporation and CERN.
