Flight Officer Fred Akwe
Engineer( Communication Electronics), Royal Air Force
Flying Officer Akwe was born in Cameroon and he is fluent in French. He has a degree in Marine Engineering and a Certificate of Competency (3rd Engineer licence). He worked as marine engineer onboard Merchant ships before joining the Army in Sep 2015. He trained at MOD Lyneham and graduated top of his class as an Aircraft Technician. In Apr 2017 he was posted to 5 Army Air Corps (AAC), Aldergrove, to provide first and second line maintenance of the Islander and Defender aircrafts. He completed his NVQ level 3 Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering after a year at Aldergrove and was promoted to Corporal in Jul 2019. Whilst at 5AAC, he organised and participated in various athletic competitions representing the Regiment and the Army in 400m track. He applied for a Commission in the RAF Engineering Branch and completed Initial Officer Training in Feb 2020. He was immediately posted to RAF Cosford for Engineering Officer Training where he studied Comms Systems, CIS management, Cyber and Space. He is currently working at RAF Boulmer as Officer Commanding Radars South Flight.
