Major General (Retd.) David Shouesmith
Business Development Director and Executive Advisor, Universal Defence and Security Solutions (UDSS)
David Shouesmith had a fast-track military career to the rank of major-general, operating in a variety of operational logistics, acquisition and support appointments, with his last 3 years in the MoD as the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Logistic Operations. Prior to that he led a number of logistic transformation programmes in the joint, aviation and land domains. In 2009 David left to pursue a new career in management consulting, bringing his experience of strategy, major projects and strategic supply chain management to a range of large and small companies in defence and other sectors, with a particular focus on obtaining improved value and availability from defence support (logistics and MRO) contracts. In 2016 he joined a US tech company to lead its UK and Europe market entry and in March 2020 he joined UDSS to co-lead their business development. David’s rare breadth of experience across both government and industry gives him a profound understanding of how people, systems and processes operate across the defence and industry enterprise, and he retains a strong interest in optimising industry’s contribution to the development and provision military capability, especially in the through-life support arena. David is a director of Universal Defence and Security Solutions, which seeks to leverage the UK defence knowledge of retired forces personnel, was the founding Chairman of the Royal Logistic Corps Foundation and is the current chairman of the Trustees of the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum.
