Paddy has served in the Royal Navy for 36 years. As Weapon’s Engineering Officer of HMS SPLENDID he led the introduction of Tomahawk, its test launch and employment in Kosovo, and was awarded the Worshipful Company of Engineer’s medal. As capability sponsor he transformed the Surface Ship Torpedo Defence programme by the introduction of new technology. Academically top on Staff Course he was awarded the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers Prize for Excellence.
After spells in Defence Intelligence and Naval Staff he became head of programmes and capability for Submarine Combat Systems and led the test and acceptance of Astute class submarines and the development of the Common Combat System. He went on to lead the Operational Information Services programme. Currently working in the Defence Innovation Unit he leads the vibrant innovation community across Defence, breaks down barriers, promotes rewards and recognition and leads to champion best practice for innovation.
