Colin Brown is a career engineer starting at Rolls-Royce Aero-Engines in 1980 after his degree in metallurgy and PhD in fatigue crack growth. He has written many research papers, has his name on one patent, and since 1980 has worked in the automotive and oil and gas sectors as well as in aerospace. He has managed three small to medium sized engineering businesses and is currently Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He is active in promoting the value of engineering to society and has appeared on radio and television bringing an engineering perspective to topical issues such as food waste and climate change.
