Alex left the Royal Navy as a Rear Admiral in 2017; his final role was as Commander UK Maritime Forces; during which he also held the role of Commander of NATO’s High Readiness Force (Maritime), trained and ready to command a NATO task force. Alex commanded three warships on global operations and established the Maritime Capability directorate as budgets were devolved to the Front Line Commands. During this period, he was Senior Responsible Owner for the majority of maritime capability including the autonomous mine counter measure the Type 26 frigate programmes.

He has spent the last 8 years in the technology sector, predominantly working with defence to embrace and scale the technologies needed to deter our adversaries today. In 2023 he co-founded Alchem Technologies and has built an AI powered dual use products to enable compliant data sharing across alliances and organisations.

He was a fellow with the Tony Blair Institute and is the UK strategic advisor for Saronic Technologies.
