Captain (N) Adam Ballard
Adam Ballard was educated at Colchester Royal Grammar School and joined the Royal Navy in 1999 as a Warfare Officer. Adam’s career has spanned 19 different ships conducting Counter Piracy, Counter Narcotics, Mine Countermeasures, CSG operations, Theatre Anti-Submarine Warfare and polar operations from the High North to Antarctica. His staff experience ashore includes time as a FOST searider and as Military Assistant to the Chief of Joint Operations in the Permanent Joint Headquaters.
Completing a MSc in Innovation with Kings College London in 2022 he has a keen interest in bringing emergent technologies rapidly to the front line and also in digitalisation of both the battle space and the business space of Defence.
Adam took up the role of Deputy Commander of the Surface Flotilla in October 2024 and is responsible for the In Service Capability Management of all Warfare, Seamanship and Navigation capabilities for the Fleet and is Senior Operator to the Operating Duty Holder.
