The year-old defence startup said it’s also focused on selling products in Europe.
Air defence UK-startup Cambridge Aerospace has revealed it plans to test its equipment in Ukraine, according to comments made by the firm’s co-founder and chief commercial officer, Chris Sylvan.
The firm, which is a little over a year old, develops air defence systems to counter aerial threats such as drones. These include the Skyhammer and Starhammer interceptors, which were both officially presented to market at DSEI UK.
In an interview with DSEI Gateway at DSEI UK 2025 on 11 September, Sylvan explained that the firm’s Skyhammer product is designed to counter Shahed loitering munitions, frequently used by Russia in Ukraine.
“That product is specifically designed to counter Shaheds – Shahed 131, 136, 236”, Sylvan said.
“In order to be able to validate that product and get it into market, to do what it's designed to do – protect people from threats – we will have to test in Ukraine”, Sylvan added.
Compared with Skyhammer, Starhammer is intended for faster and higher value targets, the company said in a press release.
While no new products were unveiled by Cambridge Aerospace at DSEI UK 2025, Sylvan mentioned the firm’s other products including Nightstar and Looking Glass, a propulsion system and an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platform, respectively.
Sylvan couldn’t comment on specifics regarding other governments or countries Cambridge Aerospace is looking to work with, though he did lay out the broad regional focus of the company.
“We're a British company facing Europe. We're European by design so we’re speaking to every single country across Europe”, Sylvan said.
“You look across the European defence market, Germany and the UK and France … they’re your top spenders, that's where there is value, that's where there's ultimately the biggest market”, he added.
