Planned purchases include combat gloves and backpacks, among other things.

Denmark is planning equipment purchases for its Home Guard in several key areas, a 5 November announcement from Denmark’s Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI) has revealed.

Planned equipment purchases include new summer and winter sleeping bags with protective layers, or bivy bags, as well as combat gloves, new field catering kits, backpacks, multitools, headlamps, and ‘Surefire EP7’ hearing protectors.

Other items of clothing sought by the FMI include Tyr protective vests and uniform items such as undershirts, underpants, socks, and knee and elbow pads.

The FMI also plans to acquire weaponry and associated equipment, including M/25 rifles, SpecterDR rifle scopes fit for rifles and light machine guns, and “nozzle guns”. Stealth equipment including night goggles and thermal cameras is also sought.

With the number of Home Guard volunteers increasing, it is important they have “the right equipment for the tasks they carry out”, the FMI said, and these planned acquisitions will help new equipment get to soldiers more quickly.

As well as procuring this equipment for the Home Guard, the FMI said, these items will be acquired in quantities that cover use by Denmark’s entire active military force, so that there is equipment consistency between the Home Guard and permanent soldiers.

The FMI expects the Home Guard command will be able to deliver this new equipment during the first half of 2026.

This is the latest acquisition push from Denmark which has seen the country unveil a DKK4 billion (USD608 million) plan to acquire new maritime capabilities in June. This included 21 new vessels for the Marine Home Guard as well as four military “marine environment and mine-laying vessels”.

Earlier in the year, Denmark announced it would be acquiring naval strike missiles for its three Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates in a NOK2.1 billion (USD196 million) deal with Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace.
