In May 2018 the Chief of Defence Personnel, in concert with the Professional Engineering Institutions, issued the Defence Engineer Professionalisation Strategy. At its heart was Defence’s vision to be ‘a sustainable, diverse and inclusive engineering workforce, recognised and valued for its professional excellence and safe engineering practice within the Defence Enterprise and more widely in society’. This session examines how the Army has been delivering the Strategy, enhancing the professional status of its engineers, and outlines the benefits this approach is generating, by attracting and keeping the loyalty of the best engineers that the UK has to offer.
