Unmanned Aerial Systems 2014

Cross Government Co-operation for Future Remotely Piloted Air SystemsUAS

10 – 11 September 2014

With a wealth of experience from operations in segregated airspace as well as the potential proliferation of RPAS in the civilian and commercial world, the time is right to bridge the gap between these two areas; creating a hub for the UAS community. In association with industry experts including the Unmanned Air Systems Capability Development Centre (UAS CDC) and Cranfield University, receive the very latest operational, regulatory and commercial updates from the unmanned community and dedicated time to do business with over 300 senior military, government and industry professionals. Last year’s event was a huge success with 240+ delegates across 16 countries, 47% of which were military personnel including the newly appointed Assistant Chief of the Air Staff. At UAS 2014 there is ample opportunity for both insightful discussion and demonstrations from key suppliers and end users.

Unmanned Air Systems Capability Development Center (UAS CDC)UAS CDC

"This year's UAS programme as part of the DSEI event is being supported by the Defence Unmanned Air Systems Capability Development Centre (UAS CDC). This UK MOD initiative aims to facilitate pragmatic and expedient test and evaluation solutions to a wide range of emerging issues ranging from operational capability problems through to studies pertaining to future UAS test and evaluation. Key to the UAS CDC's success is its engagement with, and support from industry and to this end, the UAS CDC's involvement in DSEI 2013 is both timely and relevant. Dr Dai Morris, Head of Capability in the MOD said, "The UAS CDC is pleased to support DSEI 2013, in particular the event's new focus on Unmanned Air Systems. The UAS CDC is an important pilot programme for the MOD and DSEI offers an ideal environment for us to measure the UAS CDC's impact to date and to gauge the opportunity for delivering further benefits by improving the coherence of MOD UAS test, evaluation and experimentation going forward."
"Unmanned Systems are an important and growing technology that can provide a variety of benefits to the military, civil and commercial communities.  AUVSI represents over 7,500 individuals in this industry and as the world’s largest association, we promote the advancement of this technology.  Once again, AUVSI is supporting the unmanned systems conference, pavilion and showcase at DSEI, which is one of the largest tradeshows for military and security equipment.  With such a large and diverse delegate base attending DSEI from around the world, the unmanned systems presence at DSEI will receive a valuable amount of international exposure to further advance the use of this technology"
Cranfield UniversityCranfield University
Technological advances, operational imperatives and budgetary constraints are driving ever greater reliance on UAVs in military operations. UAVs are increasingly being depended upon to deliver capabilities that formerly relied on manned platforms.  As their strategic importance increases, the UAS industry must respond to deliver systems that are ever more cost effective, dependable and survivable.
Building on its proud Aerospace and Defence heritage, Cranfield University together with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Cranfield Aerospace Ltd, is the university partner of choice in the UAS industry, offering extensive expertise spanning all aspects of unmanned and autonomous systems.  Cranfield's capabilities encompass: design, development, manufacture and integration of prototype and commercial UAVs; the design and application of advanced aerostructures and aerodynamics, avionics systems, guidance and navigation systems, and command and control systems; development of mission planning, swarming and flight control algorithms; the use of UAVs as platforms for sensor systems, communications and electronic warfare applications; and the development of defensive countermeasures for UAVs.
Cranfield University is pleased to be partnering with Clarion Events to help to focus discussions in the Unmanned Seminar programme on the critical issues currently facing the UAS industry and would welcome opportunities to partner with industry to find innovative solutions to address emerging challenges.

Previous delegate testimonials

"A great advantage of this event is that it is free to attend for MOD personnel. It means you’re going to see more of the user community and from the MOD community at large."

Lt. Colonel David Kernohan, SO1 Land (Collect), Cap ISTAR

"UAS offers delegates a great opportunity for a better understanding of the utilisation and the challenges that face unmanned air systems today."

Michael Toscano, President and CEO, AUVSI

"It was fascinating to hear the UK perspective on similar problems to what we are pursuing in Canada. With our own programmes moving ahead in the development phase, there are lessons we can take back and get a better appreciation for what is being done elsewhere."

Major David Weston, Air Liaison Officer, Defence and Research Development, Canada
