Air Static Vehicle Display
Planes, platforms and other aerospace equipment and technologies are working closely with maritime and land technologies to maximise mission effectiveness. Latest aerospace capabilities were present at DSEi 2011 with a display of fixed and rotor wing military aircraft.
The range of vehicles on display included the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) provided by Lockheed Martin which will greet visitors in the West Entrance of ExCel. Other leading displays included the ScanEagle from Insitu, the Mantis from BAE Systems and the Dominator from Diamond Airborne Sensing, based on the fully certified Diamond DA42 commercial aircraft. Key aerospace companies to exhibit included Rolls Royce, Raytheon, MBDA and Finmeccanica.
Some of the vehicles present for 2011 were:
- Lockheed Martin - JSF
- Zephyr - Qinetiq
- AgustaWestland - AW159 Lynx Wildcat

Reflecting the market expansion for Unmanned Systems (US) over the next ten years; with total values for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) increasing annually from just over $3 billion in 2011 to more than $5.5 billion in 2019, one of DSEi 2011’s major features was the Robotics and Unmanned Systems Showcase.
Scenario Demonstrations
The purpose of the demonstrations was to show in an active and exciting format how unmanned systems work together, enhancing the mission effectiveness of current operations. All seven scenarios were set around a foot patrol in Afghanistan, and consisted of dawn reconnaissance, vehicle checkpoints and arrest, IED detection and disposal, surveillance and overwatch, compound clearance, medical evacuation and perimeter security.
Demonstration participants included: Allen Vanguard, BDB, Marshall, Northrop Grumman, QinetiQ, Recon Robotics and Selex Galileo.
This ran alongside the Unmanned Theatre, which gave the theory to the practical with a full programme of strategic and throught provoking presentations.
Static Display Space
Here you could see the latest UAV and UGV Platforms on the market, allowing you to compare current capabilities and access the latest developments.
Static Displays included UAVs like the ScanEagle from Insitu and the Zephyr from Qinetiq.
The Unmanned Theatre
Set amongst the Static Display Area, this was a dedicated theatre specifically for presentations and product briefings from the unmanned systems market. Here you could see companies such as QinetiQ, Cranfield University, Recon Robotics and Selex Galileo talking about the latest advances in this field from the perspective of senior engineers, directors and decision-makers.
